I live in New Cross, south-east London. It has some rough bits where shops have been run-down and boarded-up (on the A2), but its vitality comes from Goldsmiths. It brings in so many people from all over the world. New Cross has a mix rich of people living in the area. I love the houses, full of old Victorian mansions - many of which have been converted to flats - and some conversions are not so good. That means you can almost smell the fart of the person living above/below/beside you! If I had money I'd buy one of the big old beasts and restore it to its former glory. I live in spitting distance to one of the best schools in the country. It means lots of things - not so good. House prices in the area are stooooopid and of course the whole world and its dog wants to go the school. ho, hum. A lot of it is being regenerated especially further down at New Cross Gate, the NCD region. It's the A2 really that runs right through the area which is often works like a gash in the middle of the location acting to separate things, but what can you do, it is the A2! Oh, transport-wise it's fantastic. The bus garage; the train stations; the tube is closed for the time being though due to work on its extension and up-grade. DLR links are just down the road in Deptford and Lewisham.
I live in Hackney near Haggerston Park which is not far from Shoreditch...there is always something to do; lots of diversity; lots of shops; lots of people and places to visit....its cool! :)
