Connecting women of colour online
Suggestions for site
(Wow, Foluke, is there anything you can't do, girl?!)
It's about time Precious entered the social networking world, it's proving really useful to me in other aspects of my life, so I'm glad we now have a network for minority women.
I would like to suggest that on the members page, we don't need to see the members' genders ( I assume that 99.9% of users will be women) - and what in fact will be more useful is a profession or a strap-line that tells me what that person does. So for example, I can browse the members and contact a 'writer' or an 'accountant' or whoever I want to include in my network for my own specific reasons - that will make the site really useful and increase traffic as women understand that the network itself is a RESOURCE.
I have more suggestions, but let's get the discussion started and see how everyone else thinks we can best use the Precious Network.

Jobeda, I love the fact that you can see the potential in this network already! I cannot tell you how helpful suggestions are in shaping the progress of this network.
I agree with you about the members gender question- and have removed it and instead added a function that lets you add your profile. So everyone has the opportunity to tell the rest of the network what they do; and make some genuinely useful connections.

hey, I think we also need a link with Facebook - I'm going to post the Precious Network on my profile page on FB - but as we evolve, it would even better if we could post pages or discussions or events etc straight onto FB with a click of a button, you know like you can at BBC or Diggit etc.

The way to do this is through the application tool. See sisterlicious as an example of how this is done.
